New
York Dolls Breeding & Goals
I
breed for three primary characteristics. The most important is Disposition -
Ragdolls should be laid-back, very approachable and affectionate
- the ultimate love bug.
Next
Is General
Appearance – a
Ragdoll should be of substantial size. It takes 3 to 4 years to
reach their full size. Adult females weigh 10 – 14 pounds
and Males can weigh 12 – 20 pounds. They have plush soft
coat that do not mat - it remains silky to the touch and feels
like a rabbit. I especially prize a sweet open facial expression
with a direct gaze.
Last
is Color
and Pattern - Ragdolls
always have pretty blue eyes, and most are the traditional point
colors of seal and blue. A rare few are chocolate and frost. Lately
we have lynx points, Tortie and Torbie points and new colors of
flame and cream. Traditionally, there have been three recognized
patterns, which are based on how much white is in the coat. The
highest white is a bi-color, then mitted and a solid point has
no white on it - it is shaded in its color. When the point color
is barred with tabby markings we refer to them as Lynx points. Recently,
CFA has recognized a forth pattern called Van. The Van pattern has
no more than 20% color most of which is isolated at the ears and
tail. Currently, Vans are not common.
